Large-scale PV and storage project begins construction in French Guiana

French developer Voltalia has started construction on solar energy and storage project in French Guiana.

The Savane des Pères project was awarded to Voltalia after the French government issued a call for tenders in June 2016. The project will benefit from a 25 year contract.

The 3,8 MW solar energy plant will be paired with a 2.6 MW / 2.9 MWh lithium battery energy storage installation.

“Building upon a first experience as EPC contractor for a 2 MW storage project built in 2018 in the UK, Voltalia has now the in-house expertise to carry out the development, construction and operation of storage installations,” said Sébastien Clerc, Chief Executive Officer of Voltalia.”This is an important addition to our activities, paving the way for further developments on this fast-growing market.”

The project, the first of its kind that Voltalia undertakes, aims to foster solar energy development in French overseas departments.
