Jamaica Energy Minister Hails LNG Deal

According to Energy Minister Phillip Paulwell, the Jamaica Public Service Company Limited (JPS) and New Fortress Energy have signed an agreement on the supply of liquefied natural gas to fuel the generation of electricity in Jamaica. As part of this agreement, New Fortress Energy will provide LNG for a diesel plant in Montego Bay.

While Jamaican government adds that this partnership with the United States will put Jamaica on the path to increased competitiveness and economic development, detractors question whether national energy policy should prioritize the development of renewables.

The agreement comes after a wave of announcements on a number of new renewable projects.
