Jamaica investing in energy efficiency

The Government of Jamaica has allocated $765 million to implement new energy efficiency measures. The Ministry of Science, Energy, and Technology will lead the design and implementation of energy cost-saving measures in the public sector. Planned changes include developing national guidelines for the disposal of hazardous waste, implementing an EE and EC baseline awareness survey, and implement public building air-conditioning retrofits. Objectives of the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Program (EECP), extended from its original planned end-date of 2015, are to reduce energy consumption and costs, and contribute to the reduction in greenhouse gas emissions.
