Honduras using solar energy to provide energy to rural communities

The government of Honduras has been investing in renewables projects which now represent 61% of the total energy supply of the country.

The expansion in the renewable industry has also allowed for policies which help bring electricity to rural communities in the country. Specifically, the Minster of Community Development, Mario Pineda, explained how this boom in the industry helped execute the Renewable Energy Project for Sustained Rural Development. The project, with an investment of approximately USD $41m, aims to provide solar power to communities not connected to the national grid, and allow for new independent and reliable sources of electricity.
