Green light for second phase of solar project in Dominican Republic

The second phase of the Montecristi solar project, in the Guayabín region of Dominican Republic, has been approved by the country’s National Energy Commission. The project is let by German developer F&S Solar, and largely financed by the german fund Hamburger Blue Elephant Energy AG.

With this new addition, the solar power plant will go from a capacity of 58 MW to 116 MW, and will be the biggest solar park in the Caribbean, with more than 215 000 units over an area of 208 hectares.

With an investment of over $250 million for the plants’ two phases, Montecristi is a flagship renewable energy generation development for the Caribbean island, and one of three solar projects the Dominican Republic wants to implement this year.
