Feasibility study planned for geothermal project in Ecuador

A feasibility study for a geothermal project has been undertaken in Ecuador.

The CELEC power utility is planning further drilling, with financing from the Japanese Government.

The site Chachimbiro is surrounded by a volcano and hot springs, a natural environment apt for geothermal energy development. This energy source would be consistent throughout the year.

In the next phase, the characteristics of the plant will be established, with further drilling.

Eduardo Rosero, president of the Ecuadorian Association of Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency said “it is positive to explore new sources of energy to diversify the energy matrix”.
