Dominican Republic now generating 22% of energy from renewables

The Dominican Republic is reaching its targets for renewable energy production, as set out under the Paris Agreement. In addition to reducing fossil fuel consumption, these targets will aid in lowering energy costs and mitigate GHG emissions.

Today, the country generates 3,703 MW of total electric capacity, in which 22% is produced by renewable resources. This information was provided by Omar Ramírez Tejada, environmental advisor to the Executive Branch and coordinator of the Dominican Corporation Program of State Electric Companies (CDEEE), the national utility of the Dominican Republic.
