Costa Rica is now a member of IRENA

Costa Rica is officially a member of the International Agency of Renewable Energy (IRENA). This organization, with a membership of 158 countries, is a non-governmental agency based in Abu Dhabi with an objective to create an international network and build strong cooperation with nations that are developing renewable energy.

IRENA also provides guidance and consultancy for the development of public policies that could help enhance the sector. Costa Rica is a leader in the region as it produces most of its energy mix from renewable sources, mainly from geothermal, wind, solar and biomass.
