Construction of 50MW solar plant in the Dominican Republic to be completed by the end of the year

The Dominican Republic’s National Energy Commission (CNE) has announced that the Washington Capital Solar Park is currently under construction, and will be finalised by the end of 2019.

The project is led by the Washington Capital Solar company, in cooperation with U.S. developer Dominion.

It is expected that the solar plant will generate 110 GWh per yer.

The project will have 201 000 solar panels installed in an area covering 75 hectares, said the CNE. “This is an indication of the trust and confidence in the Dominican Republic, in this investment and in the policies that have been implemented by President Danilo Medina to attract foreign investors.”

Another two large-scale solar parks, producing 100MW and 200MW, are currently in planning and construction phase in the Dominican Republic, and further provisional concessions could generate over 870MW of renewable energy.
