China and Dominican Republic explore investment opportunities

China and the Dominican Republic have strengthened their diplomatic relationship and identified opportunities for cooperation between the two nations. Specifically, China is interested in the infrastructure, transportation, electrical distribution and the renewable industries of the island. 

An official delegation from the Dominican Republic met with the Vice President of the International Development department, Deng Boqing, in Beijing.  The electricity transmission infrastructure was of particular interest for the Chinese officials, as they see potential for development and an opportunity for diversification. Today most of the electrical power is distributed by the Dominican government. The officials of both countries also stated that they are currently working on a 10-year plan, to study and invest in the generation, transmission and distribution of electricity with an emphasis on increasing the capacity of renewable energy in the country.
