Chile to develop geothermal sector with international support

At a seminar organised by Chile’s Geothermal Council, the Minister for Energy, Ms. Susana Jiménez, announced her ministry’s collaboration with the World Bank and the IDB to develop the country’s geothermal sector. Their aim is to remove technological, market and regulatory barriers to “trigger in Chile the large-scale development of geothermal energy”.

The project will also take the form of a “technical assistance and a guaranteed fund [for exploratory risks]”.

The Minister added she has “full confidence in the contribution of geothermal energy”, emphasising the potential to increase geothermal power within the country’s energy mix, and its direct uses for consumers and companies.
