Caribbean should be “test-case” for climate-related technologies

Grenada’s Foreign Affair Minister, Mr. Peter David, called on Caribbean nations and Small Island Development States (SIDS) to lead the way in nationwide implementation of renewable and climate-related technologies.

The Minister emphasised the role the region can play as a global centre and model for renewable energy and energy efficiency during a speech addressing the United Nations General Assembly.

The Minister used examples of positive action from his own country, including its new “over-arching”Ministry of Climate Resilience, Environment, Fisheries, Forestry, Disaster Management and Information, which has a mandate to “work speedily to ensure that ingrained in every aspect of our country’s development, is the question of addressing climate change and climate resilience”. He also laid out Grenada’s new macroeconomic focus on the development of its green and blue economy’s.
