Bill sent to Chilean Congress to better geothermal concession system

The Chilean Minister for Energy, Susana Jiménez, announced a bill would be sent to the Chilean Congress to facilitate the development of geothermal projects.

This is a clear signal from the Chilean Government of its commitment to geothermal and the benefits it brings in consistent and clean energy, and its aim to facilitate investment and the development of the industry.

The Minister for Energy highlighted that geothermal energy was useful for actors across the country, from hospitals and schools, to the tourism, agroindustrial and mining industries.

The Minister added: “By the end of this year, we will be the first country in the world to connect with the World Bank’s emissions trading platform, providing new incentives for environmental improvements. As a government and as a country, we have set high goals. It is everyone’s responsibility to promote this energy transition, incorporating ourselves once again within a model of sustainable development for the world”.
