Bahamas “green island” solar farm nears completion

The Bahamas solar PV project on Ragged Island, meant to be completed in January 2020, continues to face delays due in part to the after-effects of Hurricane Dorian. The solar panels are now installed, remaining work to be carried out includes building overhead transmission lines, finishing the ground wiring, and installing the energy storage equipment. An official statement from CEO of Bahamas Power & Light, Whitney Heastie, said the remaining work will take a few weeks.

Ragged Island was decimated in 2017’s Hurricane Irma, and after being deemed uninhabitable, the government declared it would become a green island.
