27 companies will participate in Colombia’s auction for large-scale solar and wind projects

The Colombian National Mining and Energy Planning Unit has announced they received over 50 bids from 27 companies for their large-scale solar and wind auction planned next month.

The large list of bidders has many global companies, including Acciona, Canadian Solarm EDF, Enel, Solarpack, Trina.

A few Colombian power distributors will also participate in the auction, including Celsia, the state owned Ecopetrol, and Enertotal.

This auction saw a larger number of bidders than a previous auction by the Colombian mining and energy department. The previous auction was not successful, as only 22 projects were submitted and the offers did not meet criteria for ensuring fair market competition.

Projects selected will receive a 15-year PPA agreement. Any project will be expected to generate energy by January 1st 2022.
