Director of Financing and Investment for Productive Sectors


Sergio currently works as Director of Financing and Investment for the Productive Sector in CAF’s Vice Presidency of the Private Sector, where he joined in January 2020. He is leading the business of structured & corporate finance and corporate finance portfolio, financial advisory for PPP schemes, equity and debt infrastructure funds and venture capital and private equity investments, covering the Latin American & the Caribbean regions.

Previously, he was responsible for “Export & Agency Finance” at Banco Santander in Mexico, originating and structuring project, asset, and corporate finance transactions. He also held a similar role for Deutsche Pfandbriefbank AG, based in London, UK, where he reestablished and grew this business globally during the Eurozone sovereign crisis.

Sergio has worked in banking for 26 years and has extensive experience in other Structured Finance products (particularly Project Finance/PPPs, Acquisition Finance and Securitization) and client coverage for the public and corporate sectors, in an area Geographically diverse including Southern Europe, Latam and other emerging market regions (Middle East, Asia and Africa). Sergio has a degree in Economics & Business Administration from the University of the Basque Country, an MBA from IE Business School, a master’s degree in Corporate and Investment Banking sponsored by BBVA and US CFA and FRM certifications.
