Joao Nicolau is the investment director for hydrogen at EDP Renewables, where is responsible for M&A activities and partnerships, covering the group global footprint. Since joining EDP in 2011, Joao has had an active role in relevant business development initiatives and M&A transactions enabling an in-depth experience along the entire energy value chain (conventional and renewable generation, transmission, distribution, supply) across Europe and LatAm. Over the last three years he has been dedicated to leverage EDP capabilities in renewable hydrogen, designing and implementing innovative projects and pushing for the development of a robust business line in the forefront of energy transition.

Prior to joining EDP, Joao worked for 10 years in investment banking and consultancy. Holds an MSc in Economics from the London School of Economics and a BSc from the Technical University of Lisbon.
