Carlos Araque is an engineer with a background in technology transfer, product development, and venture capital. He has extensive experience in building, leading, and financing high-performing multidisciplinary teams to commercialize breakthrough innovations from the university and corporate labs.
 
His work in industry from 2002-2017 led to the commercialization of multiple best-in-class products in the energy industry. He knows how to define technology, product, and business roadmaps for diverse industries, setup specialized laboratory equipment for exploration and characterization of ideas, create
and maintain an intellectual property portfolio, secure strategic partnerships to facilitate execution, and fundraise to ensure continued capitalization of ideas in their commercialization journey.
 
From 2017-2018, he was the Technical Director for The Engine, MIT’s groundbreaking fund and platform to commercialize world-changing ideas. He mentored the resident early-stage start-ups in defining their market, product, team and financing strategies; supported the investment team in their capital deployment decisions via technical due diligence; and advised the accelerator team in the
definition of their entrepreneurship program, lab and space setup, and external partnerships.
 
During his time at The Engine, Carlos got introduced to the work of Dr. Paul Woskov from the MIT Plasma Science and Fusion Center on disruptive millimeter wave drilling technology for deep geothermal heat access, and founded Quaise, Inc. to pursue commercialization of the technology at scale. He leads the company as its CEO, with teams in Houston, Boston and Cambridge UK.
 
Carlos is from Medellin, Colombia and has BS and MS degrees in Mechanical Engineering from MIT.
