Energy Sector and International Development Expert


Camila Gonzalez is an energy sector and international development expert working with the Inter-American Development Bank’s (IDB) Infrastructure and Energy Department. Her focus at IDB has been on sustainable energy development and managing programs to enable and promote the deployment of geothermal energy in Latin America and the Caribbean.

Prior to joining IDB, she held a variety of private sector roles in the energy sector in Colombia primarily structuring, financing and implementing infrastructure projects across multiple sub-sectors. She evaluated and structured investment opportunities in refining, biofuels, and pipeline operations during a three-year tenure with Ecopetrol’s Downstream Business Expansion Division; served as General Manager for a startup oil services company, SAR Energy; and worked for six years for Invercolsa, a natural gas holding company, in leadership roles encompassing finance, strategy, operations and business development. While there, she also served on the board of directors of three of Invercolsa’s affiliated companies.

She holds a degree in Industrial Engineering from the University of Los Andes in Colombia and a M.A. in International Development, with concentrations in Energy Policy and Economic Development, from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy where she was a Board of Overseers Scholar.

Camila is a Trustee for the Institute of Current World Affairs in Washington, DC, where she also served as Treasurer and Finance Committee Chair from 2014 to 2018.

With 15+ years of experience in the energy sector, she is committed to helping develop sustainable energy business models, policies, and projects.
