Jeff Winick currently serves as a Technology Manager at the U.S. Department of Energy’s Geothermal Technologies Office. In his current role he develops and leads strategic, multidisciplinary RD&D initiatives, manages technical teams, and provides advisory and subject matter expertise to the DOE’s Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy. A major focus area of his work is ensuring that geothermal power, heating, and cooling technologies are accurately represented in energy system planning models.

Mr. Winick has 25 years of international experience in energy, mineral, and water resource management. He began his professional career in 2000, working on mine-water management projects in Chile and Peru. In 2009, Mr. Winick began working in the geothermal industry; first on geothermal exploration projects in Chile, and later on 468MW of geothermal development and operations for Mercury Energy in New Zealand. He joined the DOE in 2016, where he led, authored, and/or advised on a variety of strategic initiatives including the DOE’s GeoVision, GTO’s FY2022-2026 Multi-Year Program Plan, and the Enhanced Geothermal Shot.

Mr. Winick holds a Masters in Geochemistry from the New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology, and a Bachelors in Geology from Franklin & Marshall College.
