John Caruso is portfolio manager for the UAE- Caribbean Renewable Energy Fund (UAE-CREF), which has allocated US$50 million in grants for renewable energy projects in Caribbean island countries. The Fund responds to the high cost of energy in Caribbean island countries, identified as a primary growth barrier by the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) and the SAMOA Pathway. The UAE-CREF includes projects in Bahamas, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Barbados, Antigua and Barbuda, Belize, Dominica, Saint Lucia, Dominican Republic, Guyana, Haiti, St. Kitts & Nevis, Trinidad and Tobago, Suriname, Cuba, and Jamaica. A Mechanical Engineering graduate from McMaster University, Canada, John Caruso is an expert in sustainable energy engineering and project implementation. He has more than 10 years’ experience in the renewable energy industry, with expertise covering solar photovoltaics, wind, water treatment and desalination, renewable/diesel hybrid power plants and renewable energy with battery storage.
