Gema Sacristán, a citizen of Spain, is the Chief Investment Officer of IDB Invest. She leads different teams in charge of the origination, execution and supervision of financial transactions and non-financial activities such as advisory services and new product development.

She joined the IDB in December 2008 as an Investment Officer in the Structured and Corporate Finance Department, where she subsequently became Chief of the Financial Markets Division. Prior to that, she held several leadership positions in commercial and investment banks in Madrid, London and New York.

Sacristán has been recognized as one of the 50 most outstanding female executives in Latin America by the Latin Trade magazine, is a member of the Young Presidents’ Organization (YPO) and has been appointed Lead Fellow and First Mover Fellow by the Aspen Institute. She holds degrees in economics and business administration from Universidad Autónoma in Madrid, a master’s degree in international trade and business from Universidad Complutense in Madrid, and a masters’ degree in sustainability leadership from Cambridge University, in the United Kingdom.
