Dr. Bjarni Pálsson is the Executive Director for Geothermal Department at Landsvirkjun, the national power company of Iceland. As such, he is responsible for the geothermal power project portfolio of Landsvirkjun.  Landsvirkjun operates three power plants in Northeast Iceland in total 155 MW and is currently considering several optimization, expansion and greenfield projects.  Bjarni has a PhD degree in petroleum engineering from Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh.  He has been involved in geothermal projects since 1996 and has been employed within the Landsvirkjun group since 2002. He has lectured internationally on various topics related to geothermal development. Bjarni has in the past served as the president of the Geothermal Association of Iceland and a board member of the International Geothermal Association (IGA) and is currently the chair of the Organizing Committee for the World Geothermal Congress 2020+1.
