Director
José Juan is a registered landscape architect and environmental scientist, with over 20 years of experience in environment, development, planning, and design. Throughout his wide-ranging career, he has held leadership positions in corporate, governmental, and non-profit organizations. As Manager of the Environmental Business Unit of CSA Architects & Engineers, he led a team of 30 scientists and engineers, and offered the full spectrum of services related to environment and development. José Juan served in the Government of Puerto Rico as Deputy Executive Director of the Puerto Rico Tourism Company, overseeing its Planning and Development Division. He is currently Director at Marvel Architects, San Juan, and participates in the early planning and design stages of a wide variety of projects. José Juan received his bachelor’s degree from Mount Saint Mary’s College (Maryland), and master’s degrees in Ecology, Environmental Studies, and Landscape Architecture from The University of Michigan at Ann Arbor, Yale University, and Harvard University, respectively. He is a founding faculty member of the Master in Landscape Architecture degree program at Polytechnic University of Puerto Rico, in San Juan, and Secretary of the Board of Directors of Resilient Power Puerto Rico, a non-profit dedicated to resilience across Puerto Rico. His professional practice, research, writing, and teaching focus on the intersection of ecology and design, including green infrastructure, landscape resilience, and sustainable urban design.
