Tolmasquim served as Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Mines and Energy (MME). He was a member of the Brazilian National Energy Policy Council and the Brazilian Power Sector Monitoring Committee. After the MME, Tolmasquim served as President of Empresa de Pesquisa Energética (EPE) – Brazil’s energy planning authority. Besides that, he was a member of the Board of Directors of many private and public companies. He was also a Visiting Scholar at the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and the Electricity Policy Group at Harvard Kennedy School. Due to the renewable energy auctions implemented in Brazil and adopted by several countries in Latin America, Latin Trade Magazine has elected him as one of the 25 people who transformed Latin America in the last quarter of a century. The Foreign Affairs Ministry has decorated him with Grand Officer of the Order of Rio Branco, distinguishing meritorious service and civic virtues. The Brazilian Academy of Engineering has elected him as a member in recognition of the outstanding talents of this profession. The Recharge Magazine has included him in the Thought Leader list, which considers some of the biggest names in the wind and solar industry. Mauricio has already been part of the 30 most influential people in the wind sector, drawn up by Wind Power Monthly.
Tolmasquim is the author or co-author of 25 books and over a hundred articles published in scientific journals and newspapers.
