Climate Finance Specialist


Julia Fontes, CFA, is an economist and Climate Finance Specialist at BNDES, with more than 15 years of experience in the public sector, development finance, and sustainable and green finance. She currently works on sustainable finance and serves on the Secretariat of Brazil’s Climate and Ecological Transformation Investment Platform (BIP).

She previously led the development of Brazil’s Sustainable Sovereign Bond Framework at the National Treasury and, at the New Development Bank in Shanghai, led local currency financing solutions for Brazil and engagement with Brazilian capital markets. Julia also served as Parliamentary Secretary to Congressman Alessandro Molon in Brazil’s Chamber of Deputies, advising on economic policy and proposals related to Brazil’s Green New Deal agenda.

Julia is a CFA Charterholder and holds a Master’s degree in Industrial Economics from UFRJ and a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from PUC-Rio. She is also a member of Columbia University’s Women’s Leadership Network.
