Sustainable Energy Specialist
Sherine Ibrahim is an experienced power systems expert and accomplished project manager with over 30 years of experience in leading cross-functional matrix teams. His expertise lies in successfully managing and delivering global energy projects, his deep knowledge in power utility operation processes, the implementing evaluation tools, and data analysis for completed energy projects.
In his latest role as the Principal Evaluation Specialist at Asian Development Bank (ADB) from 2019 to 2023, he played a key role in preparing project performance evaluation reports for completed energy projects. Notably, he co-led the evaluation of ADB’s 2009 Energy Policy and Program, demonstrating a strategic vision focused on discontinuing the finance of coal-fired power plants in Asia and the Pacific.
Between 2015 and 2019, Sherine served as the Senior Project Management Specialist at ADB’s Bangladesh Resident Mission, where he managed ADB energy projects portfolio (US$3.1 billion), playing a crucial role in energy sector strategy development. His responsibilities included leading strategic dialogues on energy policy reforms, collaborating with government counterparts, and providing technical guidance on regional cooperation initiatives.
Before his ADB roles, Sherine was the Senior Services Project Manager at GE Digital Energy in Canada from 2011 to 2014. During this time, he successfully led cross-functional teams in virtual environments, delivering multimillion-dollar projects and exceeding client expectations for T&D SCADA upgrade projects.
Earlier in his career, from 2000 to 2009, Sherine worked as the Senior Project Manager at Abu Dhabi power transmission utility (TRANSCO) in the UAE, where he executed a distinctive portfolio of transmission and distribution projects worth around US$1.2 billion, including the prestigious Emirates National Grid project that successfully interconnected the UAE national grid with other Gulf states’ electricity grids in 2011.
Sherine holds a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Bath, UK, and a B.Sc. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Alexandria, Egypt. He is a certified Professional Engineer in Ontario, Canada, a Project Management Professional, a Senior Member of the Institute of Electrical & Electronics Engineers, a Chartered Engineer in the UK, and a Member of the Institute of Engineering and Technology.
Outside of his professional pursuits, Sherine is dedicated to mentorship and volunteers his time to guide Engineers-In-Training, showcasing his commitment to fostering the next generation of engineering professionals. He is fluent in Arabic, English, and French, with a beginner’s level proficiency in Spanish.
