Christopher Burgess

Director of Projects


As the director of projects for RMI’s Islands Program, Christopher manages the program’s development and project delivery for a portfolio of renewable energy, energy efficiency and electric mobility projects across the Caribbean region. He has led the development and implementation of over a dozen projects in the region, including six of the first utility scale renewable energy projects in six separate jurisdictions. 

 Christopher has over two decades of experience as an environmental professional and project manager with practice in a variety of multi-disciplinary energy and infrastructure projects. He brings a wealth of environmental, renewable energy, and project management experience to accelerate energy transition. 

 Before joining RMI, Christopher was the chief operating officer at Alpha Energy, a renewable energy development company in Annapolis, Maryland. At Alpha Energy, Christopher was responsible for the company’s feasibility studies and project implementation for commercial and utility scale wind and solar installations. He regularly managed multimillion dollar projects both domestically and internationally. He is retained as a subject matter expert on energy development for the US Dept of Justice and several Wall Street research firms supporting high volume transactions in the renewable energy marketplace. He is also a published author on solar, energy resilience and energy transition. 

 He earned his master’s degree in Environmental Science and Policy from Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland and a bachelor’s degree in Coastal and Environmental Planning from East Carolina University in Greenville, North Carolina.
