Country Director for Colombia, Mexico, and Venezuela
Mark Roland Thomas is Director for Mexico, Colombia and Venezuela at the World Bank, based in Mexico City, responsible for leading client relations and the delivery of the Bank’s financial and advisory services in two of the World Bank’s countries with greater exposure. Prior to this appointment, he was Head of Country Credit Risk, leading a team responsible for sovereign credit ratings, country engagement management, portfolio risk, capital adequacy and provisioning, and structured finance proposals. Mark is an experienced economist with operational experience in Latin America, Africa, Europe and Asia, including assignments based in Brazil, Turkey and Mexico. He has published articles and book chapters covering sovereign debt, economic growth, economic crises, labor markets, and regional policy. Prior to joining the World Bank, Mark helped build a Paris-based start-up management consultancy, and has held adjunct positions at Georgetown University, Princeton University, and the University of Montreal. He holds a Ph.D. in Economics from Princeton University, a Master’s degree in Economics from McGill University and a B.A. in Mathematics from Oxford University. He is an honorary citizen of the town of Llantrisant in Wales.
