In collaboration with our development partners, we are pleased to offer a series of side events at GEOLAC 2019.<\/p>\n

There is no fee associated with either the stakeholder meeting or the site visit. Please note, however, that you must be registered to attend. For the site visit, you will be given the option to sign up during the registration process for GEOLAC. For the South to North stakeholder meeting you will need to request an invitation, as per the invitation below.<\/p>\n

From South to North: Challenges and Opportunities in Geothermal Development in Latin America & the Caribbean<\/h4>\n

The IDB is pleased to welcome leading public sector officials and multilaterals from around the region to a behind-closed-doors meeting designed to understand the main challenges to, and opportunities afforded by, the development of geothermal across the region. The session will also explore how the IDB and the multilateral community can work with national stakeholders to overcome these challenges. The session is also designed to enable government officials to provide robust feedback on the effectiveness of DFI programs supporting geothermal. Stakeholders will also report on landmarks achieved since the hosting of the first South to North meeting in Mexico in 2018.<\/p>\n

How to attend:<\/strong> While this session is expressly intended for public sector stakeholders and multilaterals, senior private sector executives are invited to apply for an invitation to participate as observers. Please request an invitation by sending an email to info@newenergyevents.com<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Site Visit to Cerro Pabell\u00f3n Geothermal Plant<\/h4>\n

On behalf of Enap and Enel, GEOLAC delegates are invited to join a site visit to Cerro Pabell\u00f3n, departing July 19 and returning the following evening on July 20.<\/p>\n

Cerro Pabell\u00f3n is the only geothermal power plant in Chile, and the first in South America. The facility is located 4,500 meters above sea level in the Antofagasta Region of the Atacama Desert, consisting of two units with a total capacity of 48 MW. In full operation, it will be able to produce around 340 GWh per year, equivalent to the annual consumption needs of more than 165,000 Chilean households, while avoiding the emission into the atmosphere of more than 166,000 tons of CO2 per year. Cerro Pabell\u00f3n is owned by Geot\u00e9rmica del Norte, a joint venture between Enel Green Power Chile\u2014the local unit of the Italian corporation Enel\u2014and Chilean state-owned oil and gas company Enap.<\/p>\n

How to attend:<\/strong> You will have the option to reserve a place for the site visit when you register to attend GEOLAC. This is a complimentary optional registration item. Please note that you will be required to fund the flight to Calama and overnight accommodation.<\/p>\n
