Climate Finance Policy Advisor
Peter Oluoch Odhengo is the Senior Policy Advisor on Climate Finance at the National Treasury and founding Director of Greening Kenya Initiative Trust—a public-private partnership whose mission is to promote green consumerism and the green economy in Kenya. He holds a Masters of Science in Environmental Protection and Sustainable Development, a Bachelor of Science in Ecology, and several post-graduate certificates in the fields of energy and resource management.
Mr. Odhengo is also the Team Leader for Development of the “Green Award Winner” of the combined Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA) and Land Use Plan (LUP) for Tana Delta in Kenya and the International Deltas Alliance Wing Coordinator for Kenya, as well as a former advisor on climate change and green energy development to the Kenyan Prime Minister. He is a climate change and natural resource management specialist, with a multidisciplinary background and more than 15 years’ experience in development and policy analysis focused on impact evaluation in inclusive green growth. Mr. Odhengo is committed to evidence-based policy research and has been actively involved in the development and review of several key energy policies and strategies.
His previous positions include as the Director of Resource Mobilization at the Kenya Water Towers Agency, Director of Programs at the African Biodiversity Institute, Principal Compliance and Enforcement officer at National Environmental Management Authority-Kenya, Senior Research Officer at the Kenya Industrial and Development Institute, and adjunct lecturer at the United States International University (USIU)-Africa.
