US approves commercial flight service to Cuba

This week the US approved commercial flights to nine sites on Cuba – a major breakthrough for the island’s tourism and commerce sectors.

Six carriers will operate from locations in the US;  American Airlines, Frontier Airlines, Jetblu Airways, Silver Airways, Southwest Airlines and Sun Country Airlines. Between these carriers, requests for nearly 60 flights for day have been submitted.

Notably, Havana was not selected as a destination for these first flight routes in over half a century. The DOT will decide on plans to fly to the capital later this summer and in the meantime the cities of Camaguey, Cayo Coco, Cayo Largo, Cienfuegos, Holguin, Manzanillo, Mantanzas, Santa Clara and Santiago de Cuba, will receive visitors eager to explore and seek investment opportunities in the recently de-sanctioned territory.
