UN ambassador pushes for waste to energy pilot in Dominica

Dominica may develop a pilot project that will turn the island’s waste into energy. Permanent Representative and Ambassador of the Commonwealth of Dominica to the United Nations, Dr. Vince Henderson, foresees a partnership with the Dominica State College that could incubate new technology to solve waste problems. The Ambassador hopes that results from initial implementation could encourage the Dominica Solid Waste Management Corporation to embrace new opportunities for recycling waste into energy. H.E Dr. Henderson also proposed that energy from waste could be used to power the Dominica State College and even export it to the rest of the Caribbean community. Participants from CARICOM, the Caribbean Community Climate Change Centre, SIDSDOCK and the Swedish Energy Agency were on hand at the workshop to hear his remarks.
