T &T experiences 15% job loss in energy sector in 2015

According to an article published by the Trinidad Express, Trindad and Tobago saw a 15% drop in energy jobs in 2015. The Central Bank of Trinidad and Tobago reported a loss of 3,200 jobs during the first half of the year, 2800 of which were eliminated during the second quarter of the year.

Additionally, the Central Bank reported that job vacancy postings had declined by 23% since last year. Senator David Small stated that, “the loss of 3,200 jobs in our small economy is not to be overlooked. In the context of the oil and gas sector it represents a loss of over 15 per cent of the jobs and this must be of concern to the government.”

The loss of jobs can be attributed to the loss of profits that the country’s oil industry has experienced over the last year.
