St. Lucian resort receives prestigious sustainable tourism award

The Bay Gardens Resorts, a group of locally-owned hotels in Rodney Bay Village, St. Lucia, have won the island its very first Green Globe Gold member certification.

The Green Globe Award recognises sustained environmental protection and sustainability measures in the hospitality and tourism industry. The Green Globe’s Gold Member status is awarded to businesses that have been certified for five consecutive years.

“We are honored and proud to have been awarded this Gold certification”, said Sanovnik Destang, the Executive Director of the St. Lucian family-owned and -operated group of hotels. “We have always emphasized the importance of environmental protection and sustainability and will continue with our conservation activities in an effort to reduce our carbon footprint.”

Guido Bauer, Green Globe’s CEO, said: “This is a major achievement and we should pay great respect to Bay Gardens’ management and staff for protecting their beautiful destination and supporting local communities.”

The next step for their business, said Destang, is that Bay Gardens Resorts two new properties become Green Globe certified.
