St. Lucia hosts regional geothermal workshop

A regional training geothermal workshop focusing on data gathering will be held in St. Lucia from the 5th to the 7th December.

Under the Global Geothermal Alliance framework, three organisations -IRENA, the International Geothermal Association and the World Bank- have co-organised technical sessions with the Geological Surveys of the Caribbean Islands States, amongst other stakeholders in the region’s geothermal sector.  This is the second workshop under this collaboration, the first having taken place in Indonesia earlier this year.

An expert group will gather data of geothermal fields in St. Lucia, Guadeloupe, St. Kitts & Nevis, Montserrat, Grenada, and Dominica. Gathering the data under UNFC Specification, means it can be classified resources as per internationally acceptable guidelines.

Further data and results will be integrated into IRENA’s Global Atlas for Renewable Energy platform.
