Soventix breaks ground on utility-scale PV plant in Dominican Republic

German IPP, Soventix, recently broke ground on a 30 MW utility-scale PV plant in Dominican Republic area of Monte Plata.

Until this plant goes into operation early next year, the largest solar arrays in the Dominican Republic comprise a pair of facilities both less than 2 MW. This project is one of three large PV plants that has recently been brought online in the Dominican Republic.

The Dominican Republic is striving to reduce its reliance on imported fossil fuels, and this PV plant, which consists of 12,000 panels, will save a $250 million a year in import payments. The project was supported by the governments of Taiwan and the Netherlands.
