Report: Jamaica to put final touches on 33 MW PV project

An agreement with Eight Rivers Energy Co Ltd (EREC) and the Jamaican government , for a 33.1 MW solar facility in Westmoreland, is almost complete. Both parties will be represented at the 2016 Caribbean Renewable Energy Forum.

Construction is scheduled to start by 2017 and power supply should commence in 2018. Energy and Technology Minister Andrew Wheatley will also present to the government a new Request for Proposals (RfP) for 100 MW of renewable energy and a 50 MW waste-to-energy project. The solar plant will require a US$50 million investment and sell power to the national grid at US$0.854 per kWh.
