In 2009, Larry Seilhamer Rodríguez started as Senator and since that moment he has been immersed in energy issues. In that time, he served as president of the Urbanism and Infrastructure Commission that worked directly with the Act 82-2010 about green energy incentives. Also, he has been engaged in the entire discussion and approval of Act 57-2014 known as “Alivio Energético.” As a licensed engineer he has been involved in topics related to the Puerto Rico Electric Power Authority (PREPA). During the last quadrennial he collaborated and participated in the investigation of the purchase and use of oil by PREPA performed by a Special Commission.

He is currently president of the Joint Commission for Public-Private Partnerships and last November he started an investigation with the College of Engineers and Surveyors of Puerto Rico on the Palo Seco Power Plant to evaluate the possibility of reopening the plant to address the emergency caused by hurricanes Irma and María. Also, he is currently chairman of the Senate’s Energy Affairs Special Commission and is in charge of Senate Bill 860 on the privatization of the Puerto Rico Electric Power Authority. Likewise, he is a designated member of The Southern States Energy Board (SSEB), which is an interstate compact, composed of governors and state legislators from sixteen southern states, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands, as well as a presidential appointee, which mission is to enhance economic development through innovations in energy and environmental policies, programs and technologies.  Similarly, he is the author of Senate Bill 773, about Climate Change that is much related with all the energy system.
