Peru’s Minister of Energy and Mines, Gonzalo Tamayo said that no renewable energy auction will be held this year. The announcement was given in an interview with local financial newspaper El Comercio, which reported that the next auction would likely take place in 2018.
The minister said that the auction expected for this year was cancelled due to the fact that not all projects selected in last year’s auction are currently being realized. “We still have to assess the real advancement of these projects”, the minister said to El Comercio. No more details were provided on these delayed projects.
Peru awarded 185 MW of solar PV projects at an average price of US$48/MWh in the renewable energy solicitation held last year. Enel Green Power Peru and Enersur were awarded two PV projects with a total capacity of 185 MW in Peru‘s fourth renewable energy solicitation.
Through the auction, Enel won a contract to supply 415 GWh annually at a price of $47.98/MWh, which it will cover with its 144 MW Rubí PV project. The company started construction on the plant in late 2016.
Enersur was awarded a contract to supply 108 GWh annually at a price of $48.50/MWh, which it plans to meet with its 40 MW Intipampa PV project.
Three wind projects were also awarded in the auction, with prices from $36.84-$37.83/MWh, as well as biomass and hydro projects. Nearly all of the supply available was awarded at 1,700 GWh of contracts.
The contract to develop the Rubi project was granted to Enel after the third renewable energy tender in the country that took place in 2015. There was 326 MW of renewable energy awarded in the tender, of which Enel received the entire solar PV quota for the 180 MW project. Previous to this tender, there had been a total of 96 MW of PV awarded in the country, spread across five projects, which are all operational.
