Operations begin at 5.5 MW solar farm in Cuba

Following the inauguration of the first solar park in the Cuban province of Ciego de Ávila – a 4.4 MW farm which begun operations in January – a second plant has begun operations. The 5.5 MW plant, located in the municipality of Chambas, was synchronized to the SEN at the beginning of February and contributes on average between 15 and 18 MW daily, according to Ariel Díaz Román, technical director of the provincial Electric Company, to the Cuban News Agency. This year, two new plants are expected to begin construction, in the municipalities of Venezuela and another in the rural are of La Cuba. Photovoltaic energy is booming in Ciego de Ávila with the placement of solar panels in homes far from the national network, hotel establishments, children’s circles and public buildings, added Ramón Acosta Álvarez, specialist of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment in the province .
