Mico University College in Jamaica will see installation of rooftop solar facility

MPC Capital and the Mico Foundation have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to install solar panels on the rooftop of the Mico University College in Jamaica.

The 2MW solar installation is part of the energy efficiency measures which aim to cost energy costs for university, reduce its greenhouse emissions and increase its energy independence.

According to the MoU, MPC Capital will finance and operate the rooftop PV facility. This investment will be added to the portfolio of the MPC Caribbean Clean Energy Fund.

“In general, the energy regulations and economic policies in Jamaica provide a conducive environment for investors, such as MPC Capital and the MPC Caribbean Clean Energy Fund”, said David Delaire, Managing Director at MPC Renewable Energies. “That’s why the country is one of our core markets in the Caribbean region.”

The solar project is expected to generate power by the second quarter of 2020.

“We look forward to working together and are confident that we’ll benefit greatly from MPC Capital’s deep experience in operating and managing renewable energy projects”, said Dr. Asburn Pinnock, President at The Mico University College.

MPC Capital and the Mico Foundation are both considering future cooperation with the utility provider Jamaica Public Service Company.
