Mexico’s energy ministry has announced that the next renewable energy auction will be held in November. In this auction, which is the third of this kind to be conducted in Mexico, selected projects will be entitled to sell power to more entities, and not only to the local utility Comisión Federal de la Electricidad (CFE), as in the first two auctions.
The terms of the tender procedure will be published on May 8, according to a joint press release from Sener and the agency Centro Nacional de Control de Energía (Cenace).
The allocated capacity will be set when the bids will be published. Bids submitted to the CFE will be published on Jul. 31, bids submitted to other buyers will be released on Aug. 14.
Technical bids must be submitted between Sep. 12 and Sep. 20.
The auction will be open to all clean energy technologies, including solar. In the first two renewable energy auctions, the Mexican government allocated approximately 3.6 GW of solar power. The auctions were introduced with Mexico’s recent energy reform.
Mexico aims to cover 35% of its energy mix with renewables by 2024.
