Mexico: 20 GW of clean energy and growing

Mexico now has over 20 GW of installed clean energy capacity, and it’s only going to grow. In the next 3 years, solar energy is expected to grow more than 20 times the current figure and wind capacity is anticipated to triple.

In a report released by the Secretariat of Energy (SENER), clean energy capacity leapt 6.29% from June 2015 to June 2016. Solar energy grew by 100 MW in the 12-month period and is expected to to reach 5,400 MW by the end of 2019, due to the large amount of contracts secured in recent renewable energy auctions. Wind capacity will reach nearly 4 GW in the same timeframe.
