Jamaican Minister Welcomes Renewable Energy Projects

Julian Robinson, Jamaican State Minister for Science, Technology, Energy and Mining, highlighted the some of the economic benefits of renewable energy projects and energy efficiency systems that have been installed over the last few months through the Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Project (REEEP).

Over the last year, the University of the West Indies’ reported a monthly energy savings at the Port Royal Laboratory of $900, which represents a 95% reduction in electricity use. National parks have also seen a similar drop in cost.

At a meeting on Monday, Robison said that the REEEP

supports the strategies of the Government (of Jamaica) to diversify our energy portfolio and reduce electricity prices. By doing so, we intend to achieve greater economic growth through investments and increased business competitiveness.
