Jamaica’s Grid to be 12.5% Renewable by 2016

According to Jamaican Energy Minister and CREF 2015 speaker, Phillip Paulwell, Jamaica is expected to source 12.5% of energy for its grid from renewable sources by the end of 2016. Paulwell continues to push for Jamaica to hit the national target of 30% renewables by 2020.

Contributing to the increased share of renewables are 78MW of renewables that will be installed by March of 2016 and an additional 37MW of “additional renewable energy sources”  that the Jamaican Office of Utilities Regulation has issued an RFP for projects with capacities greater than 100 KW to be developed on a Build, Own and Operate basis.
