JPS president and CEO Kelly Tomblin announced that an agreement was signed with New Fortress Energy to supply gas for a 190 MW power plant at Old Harbour, St. Catherine. The plant, which will replaced JPS’ oil-burning plant, will be constructed with Power China.
The final details will be finalized in early April. The plant itself is set to open at the end of April and will be fully operational by mid-2018.
“We anticipate that this new power plant will be generating electricity at below US13 per kWh when it comes online, which is remarkable, given the necessity to build new infrastructure and bear the transportation and other logistic costs,” said Tomblin.
