Haiti in discussions with Canada to build micro-hydro

Haiti is in discussions with a Canadian utility to build micro-hydroelectric plants across its energy starved communities. In the margins of the Caribbean Renewable Energy Forum (CREF 2017), the energy technology advisor to Haiti’s President Moïse, Evenson Calixte, met with a representative of Hydro Québec International to explore the possibility of obtaining technical assistance for the Haitian state to optimize energy production capability. This conversation is part of a broader approach from the Head of State’s initiatives to repair and revitalize the hydropower sector in Haiti. Meanwhile, discussions are still underway with UAE authorities to provide finance for Haitian micro-network and off-grid power projects.
