Geothermal training programme to be provided in El Salvador by UN

A memorandum of understanding was signed between the United Nations University Geothermal School, in Iceland, and the geothermal power company LaGeo in El Salvador.

This agreement will continue their cooperation on geothermal training and knowledge-sharing.

A further agreement was signed to continue a joint diploma based in the University of El Salvador, with La Geo teaching and Icelandic teachers from the Geothermal school.

The main sponsor for this event is the Icelandic Ministry of Foreign Affairs, through the UNU Geothermal Training Program.

With 24% of the electricity produced in El Salvador coming from two geothermal power plants with a joint production capacity of 204 MWe, initiatives like these are important for the Central American country. They ensure the long-term sustainability of the industry through high-quality teaching and training.

With the extensive experience of Iceland in the geothermal sector, this cooperation will be effective in assisting El Salvador’s development of geothermal energy.
