El Salvador’s solar industry is growing, with the first 10 MW of ten solar PV plants inaugurated this week. When completed, the Bosphorus project will have 10 solar PV projects generating a total of 100 MW.  AES El Salvador, the Salvadoran subsidiary of US power company AES Corporation, and the Guatemalan Corporación Multi Inversiones (CMI) are working jointly on the project. It is being partially financed by the U.S. government agency, Overseas Private Investment Corporation (OPIC). The next PV projects in La Union and El Carmen will be completed in June and August and will begin operations in July and September respectively. The second phase, Bosphorus II, will bring three 10 MW plants in the western part of the country and in Usulutan. In Bosphorus III, three more plants will be built in the central zone of El Salvador.
